Colombo Nitraat NO3 Test
Colombo Aqua NO3 Nitrate test
Accurate test for the NO3- Nitrate Nitrate value in aquarium water.
Nitrate (chemically abbreviated as NO3 ) is the final end product of the breakdown of ammonia by the nitrifying bacteria in your aquarium or pond.
Nitrate is not toxic to fish and therefore does not pose a direct problem for the health of the fish like ammonia and nitrite; high concentrations can hinder the growth and reproduction of the fish in the long term.
Indirectly, nitrate can cause algae problems, since nitrate is one of the most important nutrients for algae and plants.
Plants and algae compete with each other for nutrients and unfortunately plants can usually not decide this battle 100% in their favor.
In that case, algae can start to grow or even explode in numbers.
In aquariums, algae can completely cover walls, glass, stones and even plants.
Although nitrate is essentially non-toxic, it is still desirable to keep the nitrate level low in connection with unwanted algae growth.
In freshwater we advise to keep the nitrate level below 50 mg/l,
This is best done by changing the water; however, first check the nitrate level of the change water.
